Preliminarydevelopmentactivitieshavealreadycommencedin2025,includinglandacquisitionandutilityrelocation.Weniemphasisedtheimportanceofcompletingthesepreparatorystagesaheadofthestartofphysicalworks.
Subsequentstagesofphaseonewillincludea9.2-kilometrewestwardextensionfromTomangtoKembangan.Phasetwowillconsistoftwokeysections:a29.9-kilometresegmentfromBalarajainBantentoKembangan,anda20-kilometrestretchfromMedanSatriatoCikaranginWestJava.
ThecompleteEast-WestLineisplannedtospan87kilometres,connectingBalarajainthewesttoCikarangintheeast.Theroutewillfeature21stations,amixofelevatedandunderground,supportedbyadepotfacilityinRorotan.
Uponcompletion,theEast-WestLineisexpectedtocomplementtheNorth-SouthLine,currentlyrunning16kilometresfromLebakBulustoHotelIndonesiaandoperationalsince2019.TheNorth-SouthcorridorisundergoinganorthwardextensiontoKotaTua,NorthJakarta,whichwillexpandthetotallineto28kilometres.
JapanhasreiterateditscommitmenttosupportingtheEast-WestLine’sdevelopment,althoughTokyohasclarifiedtherearenoimmediateplanstoparticipateinfurtherMRTexpansionacrossGreaterJakarta.JapaneseAmbassadortoIndonesiaYasushiMasakistatedinJunethatthecountry’scurrentfocusremainsontheEast-WestcorridorandcompletingtheNorth-Southextension.Additionalfundingisanticipatedtosupporturbandevelopmentaroundnewlybuiltstations.
